There are 3 major industries in Iowa and they are Agriculture, Banking and Insurance. Des Moines is home to either the home office or Regional Headquarters for many banking and insurance companies. Council Bluffs which is a suburb of Omaha, NE also is headquarters for Insurance Companies

Iowa does have a state income tax but nowhere near the extent of states like California and New York rates, which makes it a more desired location than those states. Iowa’s State Sales Tax varies from county to county and runs anywhere from 4 percent to as high as 9 percent in the Atlanta area. Most companies in Iowa will compensate at the National Market Rate for salary and hourly wages.

Riverboat gambling is legal in Iowa and there are several Casinos on the Missouri River along the Nebraska border and the Mississippi River along the Illinois border. Other locations throughout the state have casinos on the water.

Iowa has 3 main economic hubs, the Des Moines area, Quad Cities (Davenport and Bettendorf) and Council Bluffs.
