Austin is the state capital of Texas which of course means lots of government jobs, however, Austin is a major hub for the IT industry some say the largest outside Silicon Valley.
Austin is one of the most liberal cities on the planet. Since at least 2010 an influx of former California residents has flocked to the Austin area which has increased liberalism in the city. If you are not liberal, you may not be welcomed. The Austin DA office controls ethics in the Texas government and usually files charges against conservatives while they are in office.
Despite contrary review, not all people in Texas or Austin carry guns and I know most Californians and people in the northeast believe an OK Corral shootout occurs every day somewhere in Texas, but this is not true. If taking a position in San Antonio or anywhere else in Texas, if you enter a place where alcoholic beverages are served you will see a sign when you enter the establishment and one behind the bar that will warn you about the consequences of having a gun or any other weapon on the premises which will up to ten years in prison. Texas does have a self-defense laws which allow you to protect yourself.
